초록/해제: 요약 : The purpose of this dissertation is to identify what are the emerging features for making disciples in the post-modern era through Christian education and worship. Throughout the western world mainline churches are struggling to define their identities. With decreasing membership, the focus has moved to ways of moving beyond maintenance to mission and outreach.

초록/해제: 요약 : Within the mainline churches in Australia, this has resulted in a number of attempts to address the problems. In the early 1990s, the work of Dr. Kennon Callahan gained prominence in Australia, with seminars being held across the country, attracting the attention of the Uniting, Anglican and Lutheran Churches. These were followed by the Willow Creek Association with its distinctive focus on seeker sensitive worship and a range of other emphases including Contagious Christianity and Alpha to name a few. Each has had some impact, but, if the statistics of the National Church Life Survey are to be believed, their impact has failed to avert the decline.

초록/해제: 요약 : One of the reasons may be the inclination of some church leaders and clergy to seek for a "quick-fix" solution. As a person involved in leading seminars across the country in Christian education and worship, I am aware of just how often leaders respond that any program longer than a few weeks is considered too demanding. However, I think there is a far deeper problem that lies at the heart of the matter. For the most part, mainline churches have failed to grasp that living in a postmodern age really makes a difference in the way people think and approach life. It is obvious from the figures relating to conversion growth that mainline churches are unable to connect with the society in which they are placed, are uncertain of how to express the gospel, and are utilizing old styles of evangelism to make converts.

초록/해제: 요약 : As Associate Director of MediaCom Education, which is the largest provider of education, planning, and worship resources for mainline churches in Australia, I have responsibility for shaping the focus of such materials for the future.

초록/해제: 요약 : In this dissertation I will attempt to identify the features of the paradigm-shift, which we call Postmodernism. I will identify the specific features that make an impact on the ways in which people come to and express faith and suggest implications for Christian education and worship as they help form a person's faith and discipleship. The specific questions are: How can worship and Christian education be molded to facilitate the process? What does it mean to create worship and education resources in a postmodern era?

초록/해제: 요약 : The dissertation is comprised of three sections. The first features an analysis of the current trends and features of the Australian mainline churches. The second section examines the theological characteristics of postmodernism and what are its implications for mainline churches as they strive to make disciples through worship and Christian education. The third is comprised of two sections---(a) the implications for worship, and (b) the characteristics of an education focus, with specific suggestions for developing resources by the organization I work for, MediaCom and Associates. The goal of the dissertation will be to establish the foundational principles for guiding our new product development into the next five years.
