■520    ▼aThis  dissertation  explores  the  historical,  biblical,  and  practical  principles  of  unity  and  mission  from  the  local  church  perspectives,  with  special  emphasis  on  the  Moravian  church  and  mission  associations  of  local  churches  in  Korea.  In  the  modern  Christian  church,  the  Moravian  church  has  contributed  in  an  outstanding  manner  towards  Christian  unity  and  mission.  The  spirit  and  practice  of  unity  caused  the  Moravian  church  to  become  a  missionary  church.  Their  reason  for  unity  was  mission,  and  for  them,  unity  and  mission  are  inseparable.
■520    ▼aAt  the  same  time,  the  church  of  Jesus  Christ  is  by  nature  one  church  and  unity  is  an  essential  mandate  of  the  church.  In  other  words,  mission  is  the  reason  for  the  unity  of  the  church  and  unity  of  the  church  must  find  expression  in  a  common  commitment  to  Jesus'  mission.  Furthermore,  the  meaning  of  unity  in  the  church  as  one  body  of  Christ  must  be  considered  in  the  light  of  the  local  church  because  of  the  spiritual  unity  of  the  believers,  as  one  body  in  Christ  is  the  cause  for  the  mission  of  Christ.
■520    ▼aAccording  to  the  practical  research  of  local  churches'  participation  in  mission  work,  although  the  Korean  church  has  shown  many  strengths  on  church  growth  and  world  mission,  one  of  greatest  weaknesses  of  the  Korean  church  is  a  lack  of  unity  in  terms  of  cooperative  missionary  work  because  of  competition  and  individualism.
■520    ▼aOne  of  the  recommended  mission  paradigms  for  unity  in  the  local  churches  in  Korea  is  the  mission  associations  of  local  churches  movement.  The  groups  of  local  churches  in  the  same  area  together  can  carry  out  missionary  work  more  effectively  as  one  body  of  Jesus  Christ  to  fulfill  His  Great  Commission.  In  addition,  the  principles  and  strategies  for  cooperative  work  among  the  local  churches,  including  lay  missionary  and  the  possibility  of  sending  pastors  as  tentmaker  missionaries,  are  suggested.
■520    ▼aThe  main  argument  in  this  dissertation  is  that  the  mission  associations  of  local  churches  in  Korea  can  be  used  as  an  example  of  practicing  actual  unity  in  mission  among  the  local  churches  in  the  same  geographical  area.
