요약 : This dissertation describes some emerging aspects of what God appears to be doing as mission, missio Dei, into, within, and through the Marketplace and to propose ways to apply this knowledge both theoretically and practically through the Christian academic community.

요약 : In light of globalization and its impact on mission, this study defines "Marketplace" to include four major, world power centers: commercial business (private sector); governmental and quasi-governmental institutions governing national and global economics (public sector); political, public policy power structures at all levels; and education. This study then examines the Marketplace both biblically and missiologically, with special emphasis on the Priesthood of All Believers, identifies who is doing mission in the Marketplace context, categorizes those initiatives and ministries, conducts in-depth, ethnographic interviews with key Marketplace Ministry leaders, develops case studies of selected Marketplace Ministries, and offers hypotheses as to the rise of a major mission movement of God vis-a-vis the Marketplace. From this, it develops both a theoretical framework (Marketplace Missiology) and an institutional proposal (the Institute for Marketplace Mission) to assist the Christian academy in engaging this phenomenon and its practitioners theologically, missiologically, and practically.

요약 : This research demonstrates that God is moving in a fresh, powerful way to, within, and through the Marketplace. Even by traditional standards it appears that the new, laity-driven, Marketplace Mission Movement may be one of the great mission movements in Christian history.

요약 : The Movement seems to be dividing into three main branches: (1) tentmaking, based on Paul's mission practice; (2) business as mission, utilizing the power and resources of capitalism (commercial business) in private sector economic development efforts, particularly in the 10/40 window; and, (3) Marketplace Ministry/Mission, primarily focused on workplace evangelism and discipleship. For the Movement to be sustained, it must find a connection with the Church. And if it is to develop and mature, it must have the support, encouragement and theological, missiological, and praxeological reflection best found in Christian academic institutions.
