■520    ▼aGod  is  relational.  The  current  state  of  the  institutional  church  within  the  larger  context  of  postmodernity  invites  a  renewed  exploration  of  ministry  --  relationally.  This  work  is  both  theoretical  and  practical  exploration  of  relational  ministry.
■520    ▼aTaking  into  account  the  contexts  of  postmodernity  and  a  particular  community  of  faith,  First  United  Methodist  Church  of  Locust  Grove,  Oklahoma,  I  explore  God  incarnate  in  human  relationships.  The  theological  focus  is  an  exploration  of  incarnational  theology  --  God  working  relationally  as  seen  in  scripture,  tradition,  reason,  and  experience.
■520    ▼aEmerging  from  the  research,  context,  and  theology,  the  ministry  project  itself  is  six-week  facilitation  of  Christian  friendship.  With  the  help  of  a  team  of  lay  advisors,  this  new  Christian  friendship  ministry  intended  to  immerse  participants  in  a  theological  exploration  and  practice  of  Christian  friendship.  The  ministry  is  dynamic  and  yet  repeatable,  including  interactive  methods  that  contribute  to  the  development  and  deepening  of  existing  relationships  among  participants,  while  encouraging  significant  interactions  with  the  potential  for  making  new  relationships  within  a  congregation.
■520    ▼aThe  narratives  collected  through  observation  and  interviews  suggest  that  this  I  Have  Called  You  Friends  ministry  was  transformative  in  the  lives  of  the  participants.  Ultimately,  as  Christians  continue  to  discern  what  it  means  to  be  and  do  church,  I  hope  that  the  results  of  this  project  encourage  people  (institutional  leaders,  congregants,  clergy...)  to  move  more  toward  relational  ministries  as  a  primary  and  effective  way  to  share  God's  love  and  good  news.
