요약 : The thesis of this dissertation is that the key to understanding Isaianic fattening is rooted in the sapiential tradition. A misunderstanding of this aspect leads to wrong conclusions about the fat-heart in general and the nature of divine fattening in particular. The body of this dissertation is divided into three main parts: alternative views, the wisdom tradition, and Isa 6:9--10 with its Synoptic occurrences. The misunderstanding arises because 'fattening' is usually thought of in terms of an act involving transformation as opposed to an act involving the perpetuation of a state. Many view the transitive nature of this act as necessitating a transformation of the object from a state of not being fat-hearted to a state or condition of being fat-hearted fueled by notions of retribution. Within a sapiential matrix, Isaiah seems to assume this act involves non-transformation by deprivation---a view that reaches back to the 'not giving' of Deut 29:3[4].

요약 : This treatment begins with major works, both general and specific, and various philosophical constructs for dealing with this passage. Next, it moves into the sapiential context by examining OT and extrabiblical literature in substantiating the claim that the heart without salfivic wisdom is the natural or congenital condition. The move is from congenital absence of salvific wisdom to the label of fat-heartedness and fattening by deprivation. Paradigmatic, inter-textual, and traditional usage of Isa 6:9--10 is used to support this viewpoint.
초록/해제
요약 : The Synoptic Gospels treat 'in parables' as a noetic rather than a linguistic concept and shorthand for absence of salvific wisdom. Jesus explains through wisdom interludes why some understand and why others do not. Those who do understand do so because of imparted wisdom while those who do not are deprived of salvific wisdom. This latter is Isaianic fattening.
