■520    ▼aThe  purpose  of  the  dissertation  was  to  investigate  the  eight  miracles  recorded  in  the  Fourth  Gospel  in  order  to  determine  their  christological  emphases.
■520    ▼aChapter  1  was  given  to  a  background  study  of  the  distinctive  characteristics  of  John's  Gospel.  This  study  was  restricted  to  the  christological  differences  between  the  Fourth  Gospel  and  the  Synoptic  Gospels.  Also,  attention  was  given  to  the  usage  of  "signs"  in  the  Old  Testament,  the  Septuagint,  the  Synoptic  Gospels,  the  other  canonical  books,  and  John's  specialized  employment.
■520    ▼aChapter  2  involved  an  exegesis  of  the  eight  miraculous  signs  in  the  Fourth  Gospel.  The  signs  are  as  follows:  the  changing  of  the  water  to  wine  (John  2:1-11),  the  healing  of  the  official's  son  (John  4:46-54),  the  healing  of  the  paralytic  (John  5:1-47),  the  feeding  of  the  multitude  (John  6:1-14,  22-59),  the  walking  upon  the  sea  (John  6:16-21),  the  healing  of  the  blind  man  (John  9:1-41),  the  raising  of  Lazarus  (John  11:1-45),  and  the  catching  of  the  multitude  of  fish  (John  21:1-14).  The  exegesis  was  restricted  to  only  those  verses  that  were  important  christologically.
