■520    ▼aThe  missio  Dei,  or  the  mission  of  God,  calls  for  the  church's  movement  toward  the  periphery.  Current  approaches  of  ecclesiology  are  challenged  as  this  study  proposes  more  attention  to  the  marginalized,  poor,  and  oppressed  worldwide.  Fortunately,  the  developments  of  the  third  wave  of  globalization  have  led  to  more  opportunities  for  short-term  mission  engagement.  To  increase  the  effectiveness  of  these  mission  endeavors,  practical  theology  serves  as  a  valuable  planning  tool.  While  the  work  primarily  focuses  on  short-term  missions  and  practical  theology  converging,  the  African  American  Baptist  Church  serves  as  a  rich  context  for  the  study.  Qualitative  research  is  used  to  gather  data  on  current  practices  of  short-term  mission  planning  from  selected  African  American  Baptist  churches.  These  results  are  used  to  highlight  the  intuitive  incorporation  of  practical  theological  methods  and  to  propose  a  strategic  practical  theological  planning  method  for  short  term  mission  planning.  This  is  a  work  that  fundamentally  brings  short-term  missions  into  conversation  with  practical  theology  using  the  context  of  the  African  American  Baptist  Church.  Practical  theology  and  the  African  American  Baptist  Church  both  have  much  to  add  to  the  conversations  taking  place  in  missiological  research.
