초록/해제: 요약 : Previous research indicates that patient-centered communication between health care providers and patients positively influences quality of life (QOL) in end-of-life care (EOLC), however, little is known about the dimensions of communication in EOLC. This descriptive and exploratory study, consisting of seven terminally ill patients who detailed to what extent: 1) initiation of discussion; 2) clarification of prognosis; 3) development of a treatment plan; 4) identification of end-of-life goals; and 5) spiritual concerns, affected their well-being and included patient ratings of the importance and satisfaction with these multiple markers of communication in EOLC.

초록/해제: 요약 : The interview and survey data for the current study was analyzed using a combination of descriptive statistics and an intuiting process that led to four themes within the theme of communication and end-of-life care: fears surrounding death and dying, preferences and satisfaction related to end-of-life care, preparations for end-of-life, and thoughts regarding an afterlife. The findings from this study provide insight for health care providers about which aspects of communication are important to patients for QOL in the EOL process.
