■520    ▼aThe  purpose  of  the  dissertation  was  to  analyze  and  compare  the  utilization  of  stylistic  elements  in  the  preaching  of  Charles  Stanley  and  Andy  Stanley  in  order  to  determine  to  what  extent  their  preaching  supports  the  assertions  of  John  A.  Broadus  regarding  homiletical  style.  Homiletical  style  in  selected  sermons  of  Charles  and  Andy  Stanley  was  examined  using  an  analysis  guide  based  on  the  fourth  edition  of  John  A.  Broadus's  On  the  Preparation  and  Delivery  of  Sermons.  After  analyzing  the  sermons  to  determine  the  extent  of  their  incorporation  of  Broadus's  essential  elements  of  style,  the  researcher  compared  the  stylistic  tendencies  of  Charles  and  Andy  Stanley  to  examine  the  essential  elements  within  individually  unique  homiletical  styles.
■520    ▼aCharles  and  Andy  Stanley  incorporated  the  three  essential  elements  of  style  identified  by  Broadus:  clarity,  force,  and  beauty.  They  utilized  a  myriad  of  tools  and  methods  to  achieve  the  elements  of  style,  demonstrating  similarities  and  dissimilarities  within  their  respective  approaches  to  preaching.  Although  both  preachers  integrated  the  elements  of  style  consistently,  Charles  demonstrated  clarity  and  force  more  proficiently  while  Andy  demonstrated  beauty  more  adeptly.
■520    ▼aThe  research  yielded  specific  implications  for  preachers.  First,  since  style  is  an  unavoidable  and  crucial  aspect  of  homiletics,  preachers  should  become  more  aware  of  their  individual  style  and  the  utilization  of  the  elements  of  style  deemed  essential  by  Broadus.  Second,  with  contemporary  homileticians  and  cultural  heralds  claiming  that  biblical  and  expository  preaching  is  ineffective  based  on  the  landscape  of  the  contemporary  culture,  style  offers  alternatives  to  preaching  within  the  contemporary  culture  without  rejecting  biblical  or  expository  preaching.  Third,  clarity  and  force  are  more  essential  factors  to  the  sermon  than  beauty,  which  has  a  derivative  quality  that  subordinates  it  as  an  element  of  style.  Consequently,  the  aesthetical  nature  of  the  sermon  must  not  be  the  supreme  focus  of  the  sermon,  but  clear  and  forceful  communication  must  take  preeminence.
