- 요약 : The shootings at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) on April 16, 2007 led to the recognition, in many reviews and task-force reports, that a multidisciplinary on-campus threat assessment and management (TAM) team is considered a best practice for preventing, assessing, and managing on-campus violence. Although recommended team models have been promoted, information on team membership and training that assists in identifying best practices remains limited. Therefore, this participatory action research study sought to clarify the team membership and training needs of university-wide TAM teams. To this end, the study examined current threat assessment team membership and training at seven institutions within a southeast state public university system, from the perspectives of team members. Data was collected from semi-structured interviews (SSIs) with eight voluntary stakeholders. The goals of this study were: (a) to identify the structural and training needs of threat assessment teams in a way that can lead to more deliberate, specialized training to meet the needs of the teams and university community; and (b) to identify stakeholders ideas about the most effective team composition. This project was able to identify the membership and training needs of TAM teams, and stakeholders were able to provide best-practice recommendations that are likely to improve such teams within the southeast state public university system and elsewhere. Following the study, a task force will be developed to further assist the southeast state public university system general administration and the individual institutions in conducting mandatory assessments of TAM at all of the institutions within the southeast state public university system and in identifying strategies to implement recommendations submitted by the task force.
