■520    ▼aThe  primary  thrust  of  this  dissertation  is  to  contextualize  a  theology  of  the  third  wave  of  the  Holy  Spirit  for  the  Wesleyan  Church.  The  Wesleyan  denomination  and  holiness  movement  in  general,  lacks  an  adequate  systematic  theology  for  ministry.
■520    ▼aMuch  of  what  has  been  presented  in  this  theology  does  not  fall  outside  Wesleyan  thought.  Wesleyans  believe  in  healing,  demonization,  spiritual  warfare,  and  gifts.  The  problems  lie  in  an  inadequate  theological  system  to  guide  Wesleyans  in  the  model  of  ministry  set  forth  in  the  New  Testament.
■520    ▼aPentecostalism  emerged  from  the  holiness  movement  in  the  latter  nineteenth  century.  Pentecostalism  was  a  new  outpouring  of  the  Holy  Spirit  in  the  twentieth  century.  Since  that  time,  the  Spirit  has  moved  again  in  the  charismatic  movement  and  then  in  the  third  wave.  All  of  these  movements  will  be  examined.  This  dissertation  will  hopefully  be  helpful  in  encouraging  Wesleyans  to  become  a  part  of  the  movement  of  the  Holy  Spirit  in  this  century.
■520    ▼aA  study  of  the  kingdom  of  God  and  the  conflict  of  God's  kingdom  with  Satan's  kingdom  on  earth  will  provide  a  framework  for  third  wave  theology.  Exploration  of  the  believer'  s  authority  and  empowerment  to  do  the  works  of  Jesus  as  recorded  in  the  gospels  will  also  add  a  biblical  foundation  to  ministry.  Ministering  healing  to  the  sick,  hurting,  demonized,  and  the  lost  provide  practical  opportunities  to  express  the  gifts  of  the  Spirit  which  will  all  be  discussed  in  this  dissertation.  Why  Christians  do  not  minister  in  the  style  of  the  third  wave  is  also  examined.
■520    ▼aIn  conclusion,  this  dissertation  offers  itself  as  a  theology  for  ministry  for  Wesleyans,  but  the  choice  of  ministering  still  rests  upon  the  individual.  The  Wesleyan  Church  will  probably  not  receive  a  new  reformation  as  a  result  of  this  dissertation.  In  the  years  to  come,  this  dissertation  could  be  used  to  awaken  many  Wesleyans  trapped  in  routine,  powerless,  and  traditional  religious  churches  to  a  new,  fresh  vision  and  passion  for  the  manifestation  of  God's  power  in  their  ministries.  The  Holy  Spirit  will  no  doubt  raise  some  up  and  great  third  wave  churches  will  appear  in  the  Wesleyan  denomination.
